Information for Patients

Who are Benchmark Medical Ltd?

Benchmark Medical Ltd arranges independent medical examinations that are required by your
Solicitor to progress your injury compensation claim.

How have you got my details?

Your solicitor has provided us with your details in order for us to arrange your independent medical examination.

Why is an independent medical examination needed?

The appointment is for our doctor to independently assess the injuries you have sustained and the rehabilitation you may require.

Do you need to see my past medical details?

These may be needed for our doctor to take into account any previous medical conditions that could affect your current injury. We can only obtain these records with your written permission. However, without them it might not be possible for your solicitor to progress your claim for compensation.

How do I arrange the medical examination?

Benchmark Medical Ltd will arrange this for you and provide you with the details of the time, date and location of your appointment.

What if I cannot attend?

If there are any problems contact us straight away.

What happens afterwards?

After your medical examination our doctor will prepare a report which is sent to your solicitors in order for them to progress your claim.

Can I see the medical report?

Your solicitor will provide you with a copy of the report.

Do you charge me for the medical examination or the medical report?

No, we are paid by your solicitor or the third party insurer. However, if you do not attend an appointment that you have agreed to attend you may be personally liable for a cancellation charge.

Will the doctor change my treatment?

The role of our experts is to document the event details, the injuries you suffered, and how these have affected your life. As they aren’t your personal GP, they will not prescribe you medications. They cannot organise physiotherapy for you directly, but may recommend that your solicitor does in their report.

I don’t speak English – does this matter?

If you do not speak English fluently you should bring a friend or family member with you to translate.
